How to remove paint on glass

It is very common after decorating to find paint has splashed onto windows. It is preferable to clean this away as soon as possible before it dries on the glass, but if it has hardened don’t despair. It’s easy to remove with the right simple tools and equipment.

Tools you need to clean paint splashes

  • glass scraper with new razor blade
  • dry microfibre cloth or kitchen roll
  • separate cloth, kitchen roll or sponge
  • bowl or bucket of soapy water

Glass scrapers can be bought for only a few pounds from DIY stores and it is essential that a fresh, sharp razor blade is used to avoid scratching.

Start by wetting the glass with your cloth dipped into the water. While the glass is still wet place your scraper against it underneath a paint spot. Gently but firmly push the blade upwards and remove the paint.

Wipe your blade clean and repeat the process.

It is essential that the glass is kept wet and the blade is clean and free of debris for the most effective removal of paint and other dried on objects.

Dry glass and / or blunt blades are likely to scratch the glass.
